Spring is here. And that means we are getting a lot of questions in the office, a lot of phone calls. One of the questions we’ve been getting lately is when is the right time to put my weed and feed down on the lawn? Whenever I hear this question, it makes me cringe. To be completely honest with you, if you are using a Weeden feed, especially if it comes out of a bag, if it’s a granular product, you are wasting your money. What we prefer to do this time of year is what is called a pre emergent application. So this is the chemical we’re using this time of year. It’s called priming. It’s a pre emergent so pre emergent prevents. So all winter long, you’ve had seeds that have blown in your lawn, they’re just the seeds are sitting in your lawn right now. Or you have weeds that were there last year that probably dropped seeds in the fall. The soil temperatures have been way too cold all winter long. So those seeds haven’t done anything. As the soil temperatures rise which they’re doing Right now, these seeds will actually germinate and start growing and you’ll get new weeds in the lawn. So, pre emergent prevents, which we love. That’s the proactive approach. While we do this, we also do what’s called a post emergent, which kills any weeds that you do have already. So if you’re doing this yourself, make sure when you go buy your product, that it has a pre emergent weed control. If you have any questions, give us a call. I don’t care if you’re doing this yourself and you just need some advice. We would love to help you out. So give us a call and we will send you off in the right direction.
